Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1

The Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1 (VEGPSP 1) involved the funding by the Department of Education, Science and Training of 26 clusters of schools from around Australia to design, implement and evaluate quality projects in values education that reflect and utilise the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools in local contexts.

A report of the learnings and outcomes from the project, 'Implementing the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools Report of the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1', and an executive summary are available for downloading from the website.

States and Territories

In the ACT :

  • Lanyon High School Cluster was successful in securing Values Education Good Practice Schools – Stage 2 funding.
  • Every Chance to Learn, Curriculum Framework for ACT Schools, preschool to Year 10, Phase 2 is currently being trialled. Schools are planning values education school forums for 2007 using the curriculum framework to support their implementation of essential learning achievements that address values.
  • ACT schools have adopted a variety of approaches to their values education school forums. If you are still planning your forum, read some of the summaries in the ACT news or in School Forum Resources for inspiration.

 

In Queensland the final event for the year will be a Values at Sunset Seminar with Professor Terry Lovat on 7 December. Professor Lovat will be making the links between quality teaching and values education.

In South Australia the second semester has seen an exciting array of values education professional learning activities for South Australian teachers, including:

  • a conference that brought together values education and Indigenous cultures and perspectives in history
  • a resources workshop for schools librarians titled ‘Unpacking the Values for Australian Schooling Kit
  • a workshop for students to establish a process for involving South Australian students in the national values education programme. They came up with a proposal for a values week.

Planning is underway for professional learning opportunities for 2007, including three mini conferences and a major conference.

A cluster in the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1 has created a website about their values programme.

Good Practice Schools Stage 2 National Briefing Session

The Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 2 got off to a great start at the first national briefing session in Melbourne on 30–31 October 2006.
