2007 National Values Education Forum: Values Education in Practice: Making Connections
The 2007 National Values Education Forum, Values Education in Practice: Making Connections, will be held on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May 2007 at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, Melbourne, Victoria.
Values Education Teaching and Learning Activities
What is the value of popular music? Are we water wise? More KLA-based lesson plans for primary and secondary students with a values focus are now available from the website. Each lesson includes teaching and learning strategies with introductory activities to engage students, guided inquiry and culminating activities.
Annotated Values Education Resources Directory
The Annotated Values Education Resources Directory provides an annotated guide to a range of values education resources for Australian schools. The directory has been split into areas of interest, such as Principals, Educators, Parents and community, and may be downloaded as PDF documents.

National
The 2007 National Values Education Forum: Values Education in Practice: Making Connections, will be held on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th May 2007 at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, Melbourne, Victoria. The Australian Curriculum Studies Association (ACSA) is organising the forum on behalf of the Department of Education, Science and Training.
The forum aims to:
- Explore the implementation of the 'National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools'
- Update participants on developments in the Department's Values Education Program
- Share good practice in values education in Australian schools
- Involve student voice in values education, and
- Facilitate discussion about future directions for values education.
The forum will bring together keynote speakers, international panellists, stakeholders, teachers, principals and students. Workshops and presentations will provide the impetus for discussion about current and future directions in values education in Australia and internationally. Keynote speakers include Dr Neil Hawkes, Professor Nel Noddings and Dr Andy Furco. Application forms are available from the ACSA website or on the Values Education website.
States and Territories
In New South Wales :
- The Association of Independent Schools NSW is hosting a pastoral care conference in 2007 entitled 'Valuing Pastoral Care'. The conference will be held on 23–24 July at the Mercure Airport Hotel in Sydney.
In Queensland :
- A Values In-service Day for Independent Schools' Queensland is to be held in Cairns on 13 March
- Dr Neil Hawkes from the UK will be presenting at a Values Education Professional Learning Day on the Gold Coast on 24 April
South Australia is hosting a twilight seminar as part of their Values Education project:
- 'Values and Middle Schooling: Adopting a values and beliefs based approach to middle schooling' is to be held on April 3. The seminar will focus on the idea that adopting a values and beliefs based approach to middle schooling requires a new mindset and new ways of thinking.
In Victoria :
- The Victorian Department of Education in collaboration with the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria and the Independent Schools Association of Victoria will be hosting the Victorian Values Education Conference, Building positive school communities – values, vision and community perspectives, at the William Angliss Centre in Latrobe Street Melbourne on 2 May 2007.
Western Australia has seen some changes to the people working in Values Education projects for 2007. The new people are:
- Patricia Dunnett, Principal Project Officer – Syllabus Development and Resources Directorate – responsible for Values Education; Health and Physical Education; English
- Elizabeth Roberts, Project Manager – Syllabus Development and Resources Directorate – responsible for Values Education Project
Good Practice Schools
Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1
Stage 1 of the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project has now been completed. An extract from 'Implementing the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools: Report of the Values Education Good Practice Schools Project – Stage 1: Final Report September 2006' for each of the clusters can be downloaded as a PDF document from each cluster’s webpage .
