Building Values Across the Whole School: A Resource Package
Building Values Across the Whole School: A Resource Package
Building Values Across the Whole School: A Resource Package forms part of the Values for Australian Schooling resource series. The resource package complements and expands on the values education resources delivered to all Australian schools in the Values for Australian Schooling Kit. The package consists of two components: primary and secondary Teaching and Learning Units and a Professional Learning Programme.
Building Values Across the Whole School: A Resource Package is for all Australian schools. Due to copyright obligations it is being published on this website through a special restricted access facility from The Learning Federation. Read below for more information on the Teaching and Learning Units and the Professional Learning Programme.
The Resource Package is available as PDF files. The Teaching and Learning Units can be downloaded as individual units or bundled together in the one package. To access Building Values across the Whole School: A Resource Package read the following instructions. It is strongly suggested that schools download the package to their school intranet so that the materials only have to be downloaded once.

Teaching and Learning Units
The Teaching and Learning Units support the integration of values education across key learning areas (KLAs) in the school curriculum. There are sixteen units for primary years comprising eight units each for Early years and Middle childhood, and sixteen units for secondary years with eight units each for Early adolescence and Later adolescence.
The teaching and learning units:
- are designed for teaching and learning in particular KLAs
- support interdisciplinary approaches
- are self-contained, with resources such as student resource sheets included
- utilise key principles of values education good practice
- deliver a sequence of suggested teaching and learning activities
- model how values understandings and practices can be integrated within the context of other curriculum materials and objectives.
The introductions to the primary and secondary Teaching and Learning Units may be downloaded below. These introductions include a matrix with the title, a brief overview, the explicit values focus and the key learning areas addressed in each of the units.
Professional Learning Programme
Teaching Practice and Values Education: Professional Learning Programme aims to promote teacher learning about values education and support teachers as they impart values within all areas of the school curriculum. The programme focuses on the role of the teacher as a values educator in classroom practice and is designed and written for a school-based facilitator or facilitator team to provide the professional learning delivery in local school settings.
The Professional Learning Programme:
- supports teacher knowledge and understanding of values education and the values education initiative based on the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools
- develops teacher knowledge and understanding of how to integrate values education in curriculum and classroom practice
- provides opportunities to explore the implementation of values education in individual teaching practice and in a local school context
- consists of three modules of approximately 80-90 minutes each that will ideally be delivered in stages over a number of school terms
- provides pre-delivery materials, ongoing learning activities and supporting resources.
Each of the three modules has a particular focus:
- Module 1: Introduction to values education
