International Polar Year 2007–2008 is a large scientific research campaign focusing on the Arctic and the Antarctic, which runs over two polar summers, from March 2007 to March 2009. The international, interdisciplinary campaign will involve over 200 projects. Research will investigate urgent issues such as climate change, changes in snow and ice, their consequences on local and global scales and their possible effects on circumpolar peoples. Research takes place within the focus areas of Earth, Land, People, Ocean, Ice, Atmosphere and Space. There are many opportunities for student involvement.
