Tasmania

Work Mentor Program

Students at risk are placed in a workplace for a day per week over a period of six weeks. The placement is tailored to the interests of the students and adult mentor. This program has been operating for 7 years in the Derwent District and consequently a strong network with local businesses in each district has been formed.

E-learn / E-Magine/Learnscope/E-Degree

New online initiatives designed to provide people in rural and remote area of Tasmanian access to free online information technology training. High quality online learning opportunities available via Skill Centre, Online Centres , Colleges and TAFE. Best practice model Dover District High School delivering VET Aquaculture to metropolitan and rural schools online. Tasmanian Online Communities have formed partnerships with TAFE and University of Tasmania to facilitate free online technology.

Partnership Conference

The purpose of the conference was to promote the opportunities and possibilities for partnerships in lights of emerging national, state and local policy. The conference provided the opportunity to showcase the emerging partnerships and celebrate partnerships at grass roots level.

Skill Centres

The development of Skill Centres throughout rural Tasmania has provided the opportunity for youth to access education and training in a familiar setting. The provision of post compulsory education in rural communities has been a major success of the Skill Centre development program which can respond to regional needs and provide the opportunity to foster shared facilities and co-location of services

Project HAHN

A primary prevention program which is very successful in providing personal development through adventure-based program. Individuals access the program through referrals from Commonwealth employment agencies, community and custodial correction, schools, youth accommodation, disability, drug and alcohol services and self referrals

Target Group: At risk 15 -25+ yeas

Coverage: State wide

Timeframe: 1996-current

Certificate of Work Skills

Has been developed as an accredited preparatory course which ensures that students are fully equipped to take part in VET courses and vocational placements. The course focuses on general employability skills, basic numeracy and literacy, intensive support and short vocational placements and supportive teaching staff.

Target Group: Year 11/12/13 students
