Initiatives targeting Recommendation 20New South WalesHelping Young People at Risk Program The Helping Young People at Risk Program (HYPAR) assists the most disadvantaged young people in the community to access vocational education and training opportunities. Resources are allocated to TAFE NSW Institutes to implement innovative programs in partnership with schools, other government agencies and community groups to address the needs of young people at risk. Target group: Young People at Risk. Coverage: All Institutes of TAFE NSW. Timeframe: The HYPAR program is a six-year initiative that commenced in the 1999/2000 financial year. Website: www.det.nsw.gov.au The Learning Works program is an enterprise education and vocational learning program designed to maximise education, training and employment outcomes for Aboriginal students in government high schools The program targets the retaining and re-engaging of Aboriginal young people in education and training through resourcing, supporting training and development of local partnership-based programs designed to generate greater equity of outcomes in school-based vocational learning. Target group: Aboriginal students in Years 9 to 12. Coverage: Learning Works is being implemented across NSW. Timeframe: 2002 (12 months program). Website: www.det.nsw.gov.au Aboriginal Careers Aspirations Program The Aboriginal Careers Aspirations Program (ACAP) is a careers awareness and education program for Aboriginal students in Years 6-8. The twelve month program is funded by the NSW Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) for Aboriginal students in NSW government schools and Catholic Education Commission (CEC) schools. Target group: Aboriginal students in Years 6 to 8. Coverage: Selected government and Catholic schools across the State. Timeframe: 2002 (12 months program).
