Initiatives targeting Recommendation 17TasmaniaPulse Youth Health Centre Provides a one stop health and well being service for young people. The centre has a multidisciplinary staff consisting of youth worker, youth housing, health worker and alcohol and drug worker. The service has close working relationships with police and combines clinical and youth access facilities where young people can undertake recreational activities in a safe and supportive environment. Education Department uses the Pulse Health Centre to provide educational programs to individuals and groups of young people. The level of resource sharing and collaboration is an excellent model for "joined up" services to young people as referred to in "Footprints to the Future" Target: 15-19 years Coverage: Glenorchy City Timeframe: 2000 - current Responsible Agency: Glenorchy City Council in conjunction with a range of government agencies Website: www.gcc.tas.gov.au The ALTed program is a pilot program designed to allow for an alternative source of education for young people that have become disconnected from mainstream education, or are at risk of doing so. An initiative of Hobart City Council, Elizabeth College and Hobart College. Coverage: Southern Tasmania, 16 -18 years Timeframe: Current 2002 Responsible Agency: Department of Education, Hobart City Council Website: www.education.tas.gov.au Department of Education's Bowen support services team has developed a comprehensive approach to supporting students with challenging behaviours. The team works with schools on early identification of at risk students and develops strong links with inter agencies. Behaviour support plans and if need be alternate programs developed which includes work placement and community based projects.
