National Policy for the Education of Girls in Australian Schools (1987)

Background

The National Policy for the Education of Girls in Australian Schools was endorsed by Ministers at the 54th Meeting (Hervey Bay, 1987) of the Australian Education Council (AEC). [The AEC has since been subsumed into MCEETYA). The National Policy was also subsequently endorsed by the National Catholic Education Commission and the National Council of Independent Schools Associations.

The National Policy was augmented in 1993 by the National Action Plan for the Education of Girls in Australian Schools 1993-97.

Both of these documents were largely superseded in 1996 by Ministerial endorsement of Gender Equity: A Framework for Australian Schools.
