Early Childhood Education Reference Group
Established May 2005 at the eighteenth MCEETYA Meeting
Terms of reference The AESOC Early Childhood Reference Group will report to each meeting of the Ministerial Council on: Progress in advancing any early childhood priority referred to the AESOC by MCEETYA. Emerging opportunities for stronger collaboration with the Australian Government, the Council of Australian Governments and other Ministerial Councils that will enhance the development of a coordinated national approach to improving the learning, development, health and wellbeing of children from birth to eight. Strategic early childhood activity undertaken by the reference group on behalf of AESOC in collaboration with the Health Disability and Community Services Ministerial Councils and other relevant Ministerial Councils. This may include: - The articulation of shared principles for early childhood learning and development across jurisdictions based on the National Agenda for Early Childhood;
- The development of appropriate outcome measures for the development and learning of young children;
- The establishment of a coherent short and long term research agenda across Ministerial councils that includes, but is not limited to, assessing the impact of learning and development experiences in early childhood in the Australian context.
Timeframe and reporting arrangementsAnnually to AESOC and MCEETYA. MembershipRepresentation will be from all states and territories and the Australian Government by invitation. Members will be co-opted from other MCEETYA Taskforces and Working Groups as required. The reference group may also co-opt members from other multilateral officers’ groups as may be appropriate from time to time.
