The Victorian Government has launched From New Directions to Action: World Class Teaching and School Leadership, a policy paper that sets out 26 initiatives to 'attract stronger candidates into teaching and improve their preparation'; 'create a high performance profession of excellence and effective professional development'; and 'provide strong direction, leadership and support at school and system levels'. NSW Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli has announced an additional $100 million in funding for public schools for 2014.
A further 54 state schools in Queensland have been accepted for independent status. The changes will allow principals to recruit teachers directly and to control the school's budget. See report on Yahoo News 16 October 2013.
