Teachers for a Fair Go

Report

Over the last few years, a project in NSW has investigated ways to identify teachers who are highly effective at engaging disadvantaged students. Teachers for a Fair Go operated between 2008 and 2010. The results of the research are currently being compiled and are to be published this year. The project developed criteria to identify teachers who are making a positive impact on the social and academic outcomes of disadvantaged students across the early (K–year 4), middle (years 5–8) and later (years 10–12) stages of schooling, and in a variety of rural and urban contexts. Twenty-five such teachers were identified and became co-researchers. Case studies were undertaken into their classroom pedagogies, with the aim of capturing both the fine distinctions between, and the commonalities among, these exemplary teachers.
