Postgraduate Education students at Flinders University are helping to support young people who struggle with mathematics at Bellevue Heights Primary School in South Australia. A unit called Numeracy, Mathematics and Learning Difficulties connects each university student with a primary school learner in need of special assistance. As well as assisting the struggling learners, the collaboration has deepened the postgraduate students' understanding of teaching and offered new perspectives to existing classroom teachers. The program is accompanied by a professional development program for school staff, which counts toward a Master of Education degree.
