David Fulton Publishers,
April 2004
Written by two English academics, this title aims to help teachers develop their understanding of mathematics. While many teachers have learnt a rule-based, process approach to mathematics in their own education, this book focuses on the need to understand the reasoning behind mathematics and to use this understanding in both teaching approach and curriculum development. Five sections cover number system and operations; number properties, sequences and algebra; handling data; geometry, shape and space; and problem-solving, reasoning and proof. Aimed at teachers of primary mathematics, this book may also be of interest to secondary teachers, parents, school leaders and those interested in the foundations of school mathematics.
