Changes to Curriculum Leadership journal

Special report

Curriculum Leadership is delighted to announce new support from two key education partners, ACARA and AITSL. These organisations will be working closely with the journal’s parent organisation, Education Services Australia (ESA), on future editions, guiding the strategic direction, planning and delivery of the journal. At the same time the journal will continue to offer an independent service to school leaders and other educators, providing articles, literature summaries and news representing a wide range of views within the Australian education community.

The collaboration with AITSL and ACARA will support ESA in the delivery of some exciting improvements to the journal. In particular, the familiar web-based version will be complemented by an interactive digital edition. This image-rich version of the journal will be published monthly and will consolidate selected content from the fortnightly web version. Developed initially for iPads, it will be free to download and available at the App Store. An announcement will be made in the web version of the journal as soon as the first digital edition is available. The interactive digital edition will also be made accessible via android devices in the near future.

AITSL, ACARA and ESA share important goals. They all strive to deliver high quality educational outcomes for Australian school students. They work together to implement and support national reform agendas including the Australian Curriculum and teacher and school leader quality initiatives. As key pillars of educational support to the Ministers’ objectives, they often partner to enhance exemplary teaching, learning and educational leadership.

ACARA (The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) is responsible for the development of a national curriculum, a national assessment program and a national data collection and reporting program. ACARA’s work involves close consultation with a wide range of stakeholders including teachers, principals, governments, state and territory education authorities, professional education associations, community groups and the general public. AITSL (The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership) seeks to promote excellence in teacher and school leader practice for the benefit of all young Australians. AITSL works towards this objective through the collaborative development, promulgation and operationalising of seven key inter-related educational initiatives. These operate end-to-end to provide the basis for a world class profession of teachers and school leaders. AITSL defines and maintains national standards for teachers and principals. This mission is collaborative in nature, drawing upon the talent and commitment of the education community including teacher employers, teacher regulatory authorities, higher education institutes, principal and professional associations; unions, national and international research and experts; and, very importantly, teachers and school leaders across Australia. The journal will provide ACARA and AITSL with a further avenue for disseminating their research work and the resources they provide to the education community.

Marking the new collaboration, Curriculum Leadership will henceforth be titled Curriculum and Leadership Journal, on both web and iPad. The two versions will be referred to as Curriculum and Leadership Journal (web edition) and Curriculum and Leadership Journal (tablet edition).
