ArticlesNumeracy across the curriculumOne promising way to develop students’ numeracy skills at school is by encouraging them to use mathematics to meet the demands of other curriculum areas. Just as literacy has become every teacher’s responsibility, so numeracy needs to be seen as integral to every learning area. In this paper the authors describe the results of the Middle Years Numeracy Across the Curriculum Project, commissioned by the ACT Department of Education, Youth and Family Services in 2003, in which teachers researched the demands of, and opportunities for, numeracy across the curriculum.
