Relevance, as used in Big Picture schools, helps to create learning opportunities and learning environments that deeply engage learners and challenge them both intellectually and personally within their areas of interest and beyond. Engagement through relevance engenders intrinsic motivation and the rigorous yet satisfying learning that currently eludes so many students.
