ACS Judith Leeson Award for Excellence in Career Teaching

Sponsored by Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, the 2009 ACS Judith Leeson Award is open to primary and secondary teachers involved in delivering a career education program in 2009.

How Indigenous students are benefiting from digital curriculum resources

tlf_logo    A recent forum in Melbourne brought together teachers of Indigenous students, Aboriginal education unit representatives and contact liaison officers from the states and territories to discuss the use of digital curriculum resources. The forum explored recent research and shared experiences about how teachers are using digital curriculum resources to improve outcomes and embed Indigenous perspectives across the curriculum.

Teachers showcased the resources they used in their programs and highlighted effective ways of integrating the resources into classrooms. More...


Assessment for Learning: National Award Finalist

The Assessment for Learning (AfL) project, undertaken by Curriculum Corporation on behalf of all Australian education ministers, has resulted in a significant online resource, which in turn is supported by a suite of DVDs, comprising

  • Peer feedback and student self-assessment
  • Strategic questioning.

The AfL DVD resource suite has now been selected as a finalist in the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) awards for Best Instructional/Training Resource. Award winners will be announced at a gala presentation on Friday 23 October 2009.

Breaking down barriers in Victorian schools

Community Services Minister, Lisa Neville, and Education Minister, Bronwyn Pike, launched the Bar None Community Awareness Kit for Schools at North Melbourne Primary School last Thursday.

The kit  is designed to assist in breaking down barriers towards people with a disability and includes curriculum units for prep to year 8 students that are linked to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, a professional development module, a teacher information booklet and a DVD featuring real life stories about students with a disability. It will be distributed to government, independent and Catholic primary and secondary schools and government funded kindergartens statewide over the next few days.

This week Curriculum Leadership features an article on Digital Divas, a single-sex elective offered to female Year 8 students at Brentwood Secondary School in Glen Waverley, in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. First trialled in 2008, the program continued this year, and has been oversubscribed by girls wanting to enrol.
