DEECD FUSE
Australia: Intersections of Identity Project
A multimedia suite of online resources
Curriuclum Corporation is managing this project for the Asia Education Foundation (AEF), funded by the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).
Curriuclum Corporation and the AEF scoped this project, which focuses on the delivery of a suite of resources to support implementation of the national English curriculum, while acknowledging the integration into the project of multi-stranded domains of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS).
Running from September 2009 to June 2010, the project will scaffold digital content with inbuilt, online, interactive activities which maximise the capacities of the web for non-linear exploration, transformative thinking, new audiences and user-generated content. These resources, designed for use with Years 7 - 10 students, will be delivered through the AEF portal and linked to DEECD's FUSE portal.
The theme is contemporary Australian identity, a popular one for teachers of English and Literacy. The resources will be drawn from print, film, multi-media, advertising, popular culture and the Internet. Resources will explore the experiences and creative literary endeavours of Australians of Asian heritage, as well as multi-modal texts which examine the impact of connecting cultures.
The need for the anthology stems from DEECD's strategy to provide schools and students with resources that exploit the capacities of Web 2.0 technologies and which connect with the emerging national curriculum as well as VELS. DEECD has also demonstrated increasing interest in development of intercultural competencies amongst its student cohort. The project will deliver 40 digital resources with accompanying teaching and learning activities. A significant percentage of these activities will utilise Web 2.0 tools. The emphasis will be on capacities to create, collaborate, think in innovative ways and transform thinking as a result of working through resources and activities.
