The Values Education for Australian Schooling initiative, funded by the Australian Government, encourages all Australian schools to provide values education in a planned and systematic way by:
- Articulating, in consultation with their school community, the school’s mission/ethos;
- Developing student responsibility in local, national and global contexts and building student resilience and social skills;
- Ensuring values are incorporated in school policies and teaching programmes across key learning areas; and
- Reviewing the outcomes of their values education practices.

The Values Education initiative includes:
- The National Framework for Values Education: provides a context, an underpinning vision for values education, a set of values for Australian schooling, and guiding principles, key elements and approaches to support schools implement values education
- Values Education Curriculum and Professional Learning Resources: an integrated package of resources to support values education in schools, encompassing a wide range of print, audiovisual and electronic resources for all levels and distributed to every school in Australia;
- Values Education Good Practice Schools Project: Stage 1 and Stage 2: a programme to determine what constitutes evidence of good practice in values education as a way of fostering and supporting improved values education practice in Australian school; and
- Values in Action Schools Project - a program in which funded cluster school projects will build on current understandings in effective values education practice and, through action research, develop deeper knowledge about evidence-based approaches that will embed improved values education practice in Australian schools.
The Values Education website is a portal to resources for values education, including news, events, articles, links, school forum snapshots, lesson plans and co-curricular activities, and the following materials:

Other aspects of the Values Education initiative include:
- Values Education School Forums: supporting schools to develop their own approaches to values education in partnership with their local communities;
- Partnership projects: with parents, principals, teachers and teacher educators; and a
- National Forum:exploring current and future directions in values education in Australia and internationally.
