The Real Game career development resources
The Real Game series offers students the opportunity to step into the shoes of an adult, to live the life of an adult, make adult decisions, and suffer adult consequences; all in an enjoyable and safe educational environment. It offers rich learning experiences for students to consider their hopes and aspirations in relation to the future world of work and career development, setting and achieving realistic goals, and ultimately living fulfilling lives by becoming productive members of society.
As students role-play various employment, unemployment and family situations, they explore the importance of transferable skills, self-knowledge, lifelong learning and the primacy of career planning to achieve satisfying, fulfilling lives. They are exposed to dozens of occupational possibilities and the pathways that an individual may take to arrive in a particular job. Students are shown the benefit of recognising and appreciating the pathway options open to them and become more confident about making decisions that will impact on their future lives.
Curriculum Corporation now stocks and sells these resources and is being supported by DEEWR to develop an Australian online version of The Real Game (Middle School edition). More...
