Curriuclum Corporation was commissioned to undertake this project by the Victorian Department of Planning and Community Development, Office for Disability.
The product is a suite of community awareness resources for students from Preparatory to Year 8 levels. The objective is to increase teachers' and students' awareness of people with a disability and the societal barriers that prevent them from fully participating in the community and achieving their potential.
The Teacher Awareness resource Kit comprises:
- A booklet for teachers with information on the range of disabilities;
- Lesson plans, activities and handouts;
- A Train-the-Trainer Module;
- A CD-ROM with all of the above;
- A DVD that includes vignettes of students with a disability and interviews with teachers, principals and parents
- A poster; and
- A brochure.
The Office for Disability provided a copy of the Kit to all Victorian schools in September 2009. A copy of the kit can also be downloaded from the Office for Disability website at http://www.officefordisability.vic.gov.au.
