Climate Change and the Environment: Overall Aims

You will begin this unit by investigating the impact you are currently having on climate change and the environment, and you will have an opportunity to make a personal commitment to reducing your greenhouse emissions that affect climate change and the environment. You will then conduct a survey to find out whether or not other people are trying to limit the impact they are having on climate change. Finally, you will devise an action plan to further reduce your greenhouse gas emissions and educate others to do the same.

After completing this unit, you will be able to:

  • define the term 'climate change'
  • identify things that people have done in the past that have contributed to climate change
  • explain why it is important to reduce the impact you are having on the environment
  • take action to reduce the impact you are having on climate change and the environment
  • suggest ways others can take action to reduce the impact on climate change and the environment.

Focus Questions

  • What is climate change?
  • What causes climate change?
  • What activities produce greenhouse gases?
  • What are the effects of climate change?
  • How can you take personal responsibility for reducing your own greenhouse gas emissions?
  • How can you influence others to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions?
