But is it any good? Evaluating Internet sources |

What sites are suitable for student access?
So far, we have been primarily assessing sites according to criteria that are suitable for an adult/teacher audience. In this section, you will look at some additional criteria to be considered for sites that will be visited by students.

Task 5 - Essential criteria for student access
Examine the questions in the table you developed in Task 3 and note those which are essential if a site is to be accessed by students.
Need some help?
Write a list of suggestions about further criteria you would apply to Internet sites before giving students access to them as part of the curriculum.
Think about this from an educational point of view; that is, what are the criteria required for students to derive educational benefit from using an Internet site? (At this stage, do not think about whole school policies about Internet access. Questions of 'Acceptable use policies' will be dealt with in Module 5.)
Help and suggestions

Task 6 - EdNA's Content standards
The Content standards developed by Education Network Australia (EdNA) Online take a slightly different approach to the evaluation criteria examined in the earlier section of this module.
Have a look at the standards now. (http://www.edna.edu.au/aboutus/policy/cont_standards.html)
The standards ensure that all websites listed in the EdNA directory and any other content (such as discussion group messages) are acceptable for the school environment and for student access.
Add any of EdNA's criteria to your list of suggestions from Task 4.
