Some different types of Internet site
In this section, you will have the opportunity to think about various ways of classifying Internet sites according to their content or other criteria.
Classifying Internet sites
You will have noticed that the sites you have been looking at are quite various. Some are directly related to education and some are not.

Task 2 - Classifying Internet sites
Classify the Internet sites in Task 1 according to the following three categories:
- Background information which could be useful for curriculum development.
- Curriculum outlines, materials or instructions addressed to teachers.
- Learning sequences or instructions intended for students to read.
You could print out a form to help you do this.
Suggested classification

Other types of sites
It would not be difficult, of course, to find Internet sites which fall outside this classification. How, for instance, should an online dictionary be classified?
More comprehensive ways of categorising Internet sites have been devised. One that is of interest to educators is provided by Blue Web'n. It is part of the Knowledge Network Explorer and is 'a library of blue ribbon learning sites on the Web'. Have a look at their categories (http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/bluewebn/apptypes.html).
If you have time, you could investigate a few of their links and see how many relate to studies of Asia.
